The Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) provides comprehensive workforce development programs that support the growth of its employees and help to advance the wastewater industry. These initiatives aim to cultivate a skilled and knowledgeable workforce while offering individuals the chance to excel in their chosen fields. Let’s dive deeper into some of the prominent programs offered by ACUA.

Instrumentation and Electrical Apprentice Program:

ACUA’s Instrumentation and Electrical Apprentice Programs are designed to address the challenge of filling key positions with skilled technicians. Instrumentation apprentices spend two years immersed in electrical courses at the technical school, followed by two years of education in industrial controls and instrumentation at the local community college. The electrical program is a four-year program completed in collaboration with the technical school and provides apprentices with knowledge of electrical science, wiring and motor controls. Throughout each program, apprentices work alongside employees to gain hands-on experience in the electrical and mechanical controls crucial for operating ACUA’s wastewater treatment facility.

AEA Leadership Development:

ACUA is committed to fostering well-rounded professionals, and as part of this endeavor, it participates in the Association of Environmental Authorities’ (AEA) Leadership Development program. This initiative provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the various operations of a Wastewater/Water Authority, covering areas such as physical operations, HR, administration, and finance. By sending employees to this program, ACUA invests in their holistic development and equips them with the knowledge needed to excel in their roles.

ACUA Leadership Training:

Recognizing the significance of effective leadership within the organization, ACUA has developed a one-day leadership program tailored specifically to its operations. This program is designed for newly promoted managers and supervisors, providing them with the essential skills and insights required to lead effectively within the unique context of ACUA.

Pre-Apprenticeship in Career Education (PACE):

Through collaboration with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, ACUA engages in the Pre-Apprenticeship in Career Education (PACE) program. This grant-funded initiative offers high school students paid apprenticeships across various departments within the organization. By offering these opportunities, ACUA not only contributes to the development of future talent but also provides students with valuable hands-on experience in fields such as Wastewater Operations, IT, and HR.

ACUA’s Commitment to Career Advancement:

The dedication of ACUA to fostering career growth is evident not only through its structured programs but also in its active recruitment and support for employees at various career stages. The organization regularly posts about open positions and career advancement stories on social media platforms, showcasing the diverse opportunities available within the company. Employees like Antoine and Erik serve as inspiring examples of individuals who have progressed within ACUA, demonstrating the potential for career advancement and personal growth within the organization.

ACUA’s Social Media Initiatives:

Furthermore, ACUA actively engages with the community through social media, using platforms like Instagram to share informative content and job opportunities. By providing insights into the wastewater treatment process and showcasing the efforts of its teams, ACUA educates the public while highlighting the essential services its workforce provides.

In conclusion, the Atlantic County Utilities Authority’s commitment to workforce development and career advancement is evident through its multifaceted programs and initiatives. By investing in the growth and development of its employees, ACUA ensures a skilled and motivated workforce, ultimately contributing to its continued success and the well-being of the community it serves.
