The invisible nature of water and sewer infrastructure means data plays an essential role in showing progress, while identifying opportunities for improvement and investment. Transparent data on water systems is essential to keeping citizens safe.
Jersey Water Works created the Data Advisory Committee, made up of members with a diverse set of subject matter expertise, to create a data dashboard that showcases New Jersey’s water metrics and provides the transparency that we need to monitor water quality across the state.
 In February 2021, Jersey WaterCheck was launched—a collaboration between the Data Advisory Committee, a utility coalition, utility associations, consumer focus groups, and Jersey Water Works committee members. In addition, Jersey Water Works’ backbone staff at New Jersey Future managed the project with the support of consultants, and a coalition of select utility members played a vital role in user testing and providing feedback on metric descriptions during the dashboard creation.
Jersey WaterCheck is the first of its kind in New Jersey, featuring data on water infrastructure from multiple sources in one place to tell the story of New Jersey’s water and sewer systems. The user-friendly web-based dashboard is designed for a wide audience with a range of easy-to-understand metrics.

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="4">Coordinate with the CSO Committee on LTCP implementation and stormwater fee options for CSO communities.</li>

<li>Host or participate in at least two activities (meeting, event, letter campaign) that engage and inform elected officials about the benefits of investing in water infrastructure including the need for funding the LTCP, stormwater utilities, green infrastructure, and how to utilize Jersey WaterCheck as a resource.</li>
<li>Conduct an interactive program for the public to increase understanding of complex water policies and create opportunities for a two-way exchange of ideas.</li>
<li>Host two structured listening sessions with utilities to learn more about their challenges and continue to identify opportunities for synergy.</li>
<li>Create a resource for water customers at risk of service shut-off when the moratorium is over. Share with utility companies and the general public.</li>
<li>Host two networking events for JWW members and non-members to activate their participation.</li>
</ol>

<ol>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Connect communities to funding: Guide communities toward funding available for green infrastructure projects, and work with state and federal agencies to gather information on funding opportunities.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Increase access to GI resources: Explore how to offer green infrastructure resources in different languages. Work with JWW member organizations and identify advocacy groups to help elevate resources beyond JWW. </li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Connect with communities through projects: Identify hands-on activities or in-person events to be present during and share resources. Host at least one in-person committee meeting with an educational component.</li>
